Who do you call your brother or sister in Christ?

Who do you call your brother or sister in Christ?

This is to all who consider themselves to be Christians and part of the Family of God.

Matthew 23:8-9 But you, do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.

I need your input for study purposes!

Do you call him your brother in Christ or is he just one that you consider a brother in terms of one in the human race?

So many people are too quick to call someone their brother or sister in Christ not even knowing if they are truly of the same family.

To be of the same family is to have the Same Father. I must be honest that anyone who does not have God as their heavenly Father is not my brother or sister. He is Abba to us who are His. We have the same Daddy. John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

We who are born again and have received Christ through faith in Him and by His grace and adoption are His children.

Those who have not believed on Jesus and received Him as their Lord and savior are not part of that family.

I do not ever consider those of a cult or false religion to be my brothers and sisters in Christ and to call them that is wrong. We were bought with a heavy price and are heirs to the throne because of what Jesus did and no one else.

Those who are born again are my brother or sister in Christ. Of course, since I can't read anyone's mind, I can only take their word for it or judge by their lives and their teachings.
Safe in Christ, sealed by the Holy Spirit.

Amen!

When one calls another brother or sister in Christ they are saying that you and I are of the same family. We have the same Father, we are the church, we are born again Christians we are saved and have the same Spirit in us.

We are to test the spirits to see if they are of God. Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

So, My point is this, that when we are brothers and sisters in Christ then our spirits will bear it out. One should not be quick to call another brethren especially when their spirit does not bear it out.

My brother or sister in Christ is one who acknowledges that he has been purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ and is living it out in his/her life.

I agree with the later part of your statement and here is why I started this thread.

Over the years in dealing with cults, false religions and secular and social pseudo-Christians I have found they also claim, to be purchased by the blood of Jesus and call themselves Christian.

Along with them calling themselves Christians, others who are of the mainstream Christian churches will call them their brother or call them their sister in Christ.

I do not consider JW's, Mormon's Oneness Pentecostal,
nor Buddhist, Muslims, etc as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Carmela, I know you don't either. I am just trying to point out some errors of our thinking and the way we conduct ourselves on these boards. I see this a lot on Facebook, Classmates, and other social networks and so called Christian forums.

One can not be sheep in the sheepfold of the Lord Jesus Christ as long as they are trying to enter by another way or through another door or gate. John 10:1-5 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

Frank I agree totally, and we must constantly discern these issues, as it is so widely misused in society today. A local pastor here has recently left preaching in the pulpit, to do full time missions. On a recent trip to Africa, they went to a tribe which he had not yet been too. There were already Christians there. He met this woman and he asked her "how do you know you are a Christian"? She was insulted, and explained that they would not call themselves Christian, because of what they have seen of the US. They did not want to be placed in the same group with those here, who attend maybe once a week, never share the Word, and such. She quickly informed him, she was a Believer.

It's so sad that third world countries are making such a stand for Christ and look at us, like they do. A few weeks ago we were visited by Pastor Yung and his son from Korea, who were on there way to MS for a mission trip.

If it can not be seen that we have a problem, when Missionaries are coming here to share the gospel?

After studying these scriptures this is my understanding...

Jesus was warning His disciples about the 'religious leaders' who was teaching the Law,but their PRACTICES, being hypocritical, should not be followed...

They placed heavy burdens on people but were not righteous themselves..

All their works were performed to be observed by men..

They loved places of honor and to be call Rabbi implying they were scholars..

This was not the attitude of Jesus' followers...

Positions were not to be sought; instead there should be a brotherly relationship among the disciples..

The Pharisees, who exalted themselves, would be humbled, and Jesus'
followers, by humbling themselves in service, would someday be exalted..

Not everyone is my brother and sister in Christ unless I see spiritual fruit within their lives...that is listed in Galatians..

Just as Elizabeth's baby...John the Baptist...leaped with Christ in Mary...

Our spirit can 'bear witness' of another's person spirit whether they belong to Christ..

Also, for me, I don't ASSUME everyone is saved just because they say they are saved....

Usually, I ask for their testimony as to WHEN..TIME...PLACE... they KNOW that they found Christ...

If they cannot give me any information about their salvation experience, then I doubt...

If there is no CHANGE within them after salvation, I doubt...

It's exactly what Jesus told Nicodemus....You must be BORN AGAIN...

Born again does not mean any kind of WORK added for salvation...

It's accepting His free gift of salvation through faith...
