“What Language should the United States be speaking today?"

Postby Bible Bear » 28 Aug 2011, 16:11

I was born in California in 1971. When I was growing up and going to school English was the only language that I know was spoken and taught in classrooms except for elective classes in foreign languages. Always then English was the official language of the United States.

Today things have changed. The U.S now has a large number of people who have immigrated from Spanish speaking countries. If you go to some cities like where I have lived in Anaheim Calif. when you get on the bus you will see Spanish writing advertisements inside. You will also see in that area most of the passengers are Spanish. These are many who have come here to work among the crowd. At times I feel like I am a minority and perhaps I am this day. However I have got along well with the Spanish people. Never one time have I got into anything serious with any of those citizens. I also don’t pose any threat to them either. I did not wear any gang like clothes to start up any quarrels. I wore my blue jeans and whatever shirt I had.

Well I have heard talk that maybe Spanish may become the United States other official language. I really don’t understand Spanish in writing or that of speaking or hearing. But I want to ask the opinion of others at the forum do you think it is ok or well fitting for America to adopt Spanish as a second language? Or do you think the United States should remain English as our official spoken Language? Let’s have a board discussion about this.

Well you know the Republicans and Democrats make laws for us but we the citizens got to live out the outcome of their decisions. But never think we don’t have a say as long as we still have some freedom left. Let us express the issues such as these that may concern people around the Nation? It is ok for us to resist the lawlessness of those laws that pertains an Antichrist Movie agenda. We never live against God. Not even to the Laws of the land. What is your opinion about the United States official speaking language of today?

Let me stress the point that I’m not against the Spanish people in any way shape or form.
This is just purely a topic that came to mind.
Like I have said I have no problems in the past or now in the present with Spanish people.
So please know I am not trying to offend anyone at all.

Hey Bible Bear...I live in Texas...and yes...ENGLISH should be our number one primary language...

They should have to learn OUR LANGAUGE...

Sam Houston, and all those who fought at the Alamo would be 'turning over in their graves' if they only knew what is happening to the US...

Sooo many sacrifice their lives for America's freedom even on our American soils...

Very sad,and it's just a 'one world agenda' that is happening in America by our federal/state governments...

#1 America was English speaking nation when we won our independance.
2. I'm offended by your use of the generic term Spanish, 85 % of these are criminals in my eyes because they have invaded our land ILLEGALLY.
3 Any immigrant group that comes here needs to learn our language and how to communicate or they will not be a productive part od society.
4 if they come here they need to make an effort to become an American not expect everyone to try to accomidate them in other words no habla no service.
5 Every time I drive by the big churches advertising english classes I want to puke, dont coddle criminals and dont try to make their criminal activity acceptable in society. The churches business isn't social engineering or social justice.

Well the area that I live in now I have lived this will be 43 years in Oct...When we first moved here it was all White/Italian/Bohemian people.
Everyone was speaking English and not even close to Spanish.

As the decades went on very slowly the Spanish have been moving here along with the African /Americans.
Now i live by the basic rule that I was taught that if you bother no one then no one should bother you...if you help others then they should help you.

There was a very nice Mexican man named Hector that lived next door to me.When he first moved in it took a while before even saying hello to him. But then during the winters and when there was very bad storms here he would help me to shovel my snow
when there was no way for me to do it at times because my back was very bad and I was doing everything else for the household.

When he would speak it was English even though his native language is Spanish.
I only know few words of the language and English is the only language I know.

I couldn't stop or start anyone from speaking any language they prefer to speak even if I would prefer them to speak English.
It's a lot harder to communicate in this neighborhood at times but somehow I manage.

But if I remember correctly and maybe someone can see or say if I am correct but wasn't Spanish the language being taught in schools to kids within these last few years as a secondary language?

I'm offended by your use of the generic term Spanish, 85 % of these are criminals in my eyes because they have invaded our land ILLEGALLY.

You may be absolutely right on this point but what can we do about it?
:gues

We aren't the ones personally that let anyone come into this country illegally.
And I mean any person that is an illegal, not just the Spanish.
