“What Bibles you don't recommend"

Postby Bible Bear » 16 Mar 2010, 01:20

Hey all members and all readers. Welcome to CFF. Frank is the owner of this site a nice Baptist pastor. This is a real nice place to join. I have been to many Christian forums. This is the nicest one with The Biblical Truth here.

I study The New Kings James. I used to study out of the NIV the international version before that. Cause I could not understand the Bible at first I switched to New Kings James as it is in English and closest to Kings James.

There is a couple of Bibles I would not recommend. I will let you know about these 2. Members here don't read these ones I know.

So please let me ask everyone. Do you recommend other Bibles you think others should not read? That you believed is too far watered down from the original verses in English Translations. What version of the Bible asking all to ones that you may not support for study? Here is a good discussion. We can also talk about why this is. We can learn more all of us with the Lord and our assembly together in a nice peaceful discussion. Let us talk about Bibles you consider not good of study and why. Let us learn about some of these books to tell one another and to all readers.

First, Let me say that you can't go wrong using the KJV, I use the NKJV for quoting and preaching. I also use the NIV and Revised Standard for study references sometime. I have many Bibles and translations in my study just for references.

I would not recommend paraphrased bibles such as the Living bible. Nor would I use some of the new world translations.

This might help: rules-and-guideline-for-biblical-interpretation-t4531.html

I also want people to know that I am not the owner of this site, But our Lord is. I may be an ordained Southern Baptist pastor, But I am a Christian and the Bible is the source of truth for me, not a denomination.

When I was an atheist, my mother-in-law offended me by giving my husband and me a Living Bible one year for Christmas. I packed it away with the old KJV I got in Sunday school as a child. When I was 30, I went to a Bible Study after we moved to the town where my in-laws lived (pop 640). I was lonely and figured I could go and stir up the group. I was all about stirring people up in those days.

I took the KJV with me but couldn't make heads or tails of it so I switched to the LB. As much as I don't care for the LB, I was convicted by the Holy Spirit about the existence of God, when reading that Bible. I wanted to know more accurately what God was telling me so I asked another lady what Bible she was reading from. It sounded so clear to me. She said it was the NIV. I stayed with the NIV for about 10 years before switching to the NASB.

My rule of thumb is just to stick with a direct translation but, in my case, I was saved while reading the Living Bible. Also, the Strong's concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon became invaluable to my study of the Word.

Like Frank, I have many Bibles in many translations and when someone in the family dies, it seems their Bible is always passed along to me because people don't know what else to do with them.

P.S. I didn't know Frank was Southern Baptist. I guess I never thought about it. God bless you Frank for never drawing attention to yourself or a denomination. You are without "agenda" and you always direct us to Jesus. I know no finer compliment I could give to a Pastor.

Lynda, That makes my heart swelll, not with pride but with thanks for what the Lord has directed me and shown me through the years and because this has been one of my goals as a minister.

There are several. I had never heard of parallel bibles until this past Sat. What I would like is a NKJV/NLT study bible.

I have alot of Bible translations and my favorite is the NLT. I use it all the time and find it to be very accurate and true to the original manuscripts. It has footnotes when ever there is a descrepancy between translations. All in all, I find all the transulations saying basically the same thing especially where salvation is concerned. I've heard that the TNIV (Today's New International Version) is a mess, however. It makes God an "it". . both male and female and has many other issues. So, that one I would not recommend. The NIV had a lesbian on it's board so you just never know. And that's the version used the most.

Carmela thanks for your words in this. i did not know that. and as for Frank i also say not the New World translation. this is one the Jehovahs Witnesses endorse they whom also say the Kings James is a False Bible the other one i know of is called TynDale. boy i tell you when anna read me this. it sounded nothing at all like the New kings james or NIV. this one would have been confusing. tyndale do not study. but you can take a look in your store how chaos this one is.

Hey Robbie. . .Tyndale is a publishing house not a specific Bible. My NLT is published by Tyndale. Thomas Nelson is another popular publishing house along with Zondervan. What was it that you read in regards to Tyndale? I'd like to add that when I study, I always have my Dake's Annotated Reference Bible which is a King James published by Dake himself. I'm not always in agreement with him but he is a foundation that I have come to rely on as a source when doing in depth studies. I value his opinion even when we disagree :)

I also like the KJV & NKJV. I have several different translations for reference purposes now & then, but if a question remains, I always go back to one of the aforementioned. The one translation I don't like is the Amplified Bible. It's really a commentary "note all the brackets & parenthesis which are "clarifying phrases not necessarily included in the original text". I found a couple of other problems with it I won't go into at this time.

I personally don't like the NIV because they've reduced a few passages to mere footnotes. And there was one passage I had that refers to "Jesus as the cap stone", when the KJ says he's the "corner stone". Different meanings, in my opinion. But please don't let this discourage anyone from reading the NIV--because you'll get to a point where you want to do more research and get a richer meaning of the Scriptures.

I have one Bible that has several versions that are placed side by side. It includes the KJV, NKJV, Living Translation and NIV.

For a modern translation, I like the Holman Christian Standard Bible. But I usually read this when I'm lazy or I have given these to people who have never read the Bible before and are "intimidated" by the KJV. Personally I like the poetic nature of the KJV. And it seems to lend itself to more as a definitive and a document of Authority. Just my 2 cents...LOL

Funny I do not like the KJV or the NKJV at all. I see their value mind you but reading them puts me to sleep. I personally use 3 bibles. The NIV, the NASB and the Interlinear Bible. My Favorate is the Interlinear Bible. It is written in Hebrew for the Old Testament and Kione Greek for the New Testament. It also provides a direct word for word translation directly below the original languages. On the side bar it has the Literal translation of the bible with all the needed english filler words that Greek and Hebrew don't have so that the meaning is expressed as intended.

This is not a bible for carrying to church. You might ask why? well its about 10 pounds for starters and its harder to keep up with a pastor because it cntains so much more than just the English.

Now I do not recommend the TNIV, paraphased bibles, Youngs bible or the aforementioned JW's bible. Youngs is Brigham Young a mormon prophet.

The KJV is the best in my own thoughts...

I don't recommend the TNIV or paraphased Bibles because there's 'private intrepretations' within these Bibles...

They leave out important 'words' that is in KJV that can change the whole meaning of the verse...

Isn't the Holy Spirit the teacher?

Why do we choose to leave out the HS,and get the easier Bibles to read?

God wants us to spend allot of time 'studying' so that we can have fellowship with our Lord....

God wants us to be 'challenged' so that we will take time with Him...

Doesn't matter what man interpretates, but pray for 'wisdom' from the Lord when you pray and study your Bible...

Don't rely on 'feelings' or 'what you are taught by others',but seek God's wisdom on what the scripture says...

Be very careful of the 'bible teachers' you listen or watch...

Know the Word so that you can make right decisions....

Look at the book you are reading, who the author is, and who the author is writing to....

If it's the Jew, this applies to the Jew...

If it's the Church, this applies to the Church...

Do not use 'replacement theology' which sooo many Bible teachers and preachers will do....

Picking the correct Bible is sooo important, and please, keep that in your mind...
