I don't recommend the TNIV or paraphased Bibles because there's 'private intrepretations' within these Bibles...
They leave out important 'words' that is in KJV that can change the whole meaning of the verse...
Isn't the Holy Spirit the teacher?
Why do we choose to leave out the HS,and get the easier Bibles to read?
God wants us to spend allot of time 'studying' so that we can have fellowship with our Lord....
God wants us to be 'challenged' so that we will take time with Him...
Doesn't matter what man interpretates, but pray for 'wisdom' from the Lord when you pray and study your Bible...
Don't rely on 'feelings' or 'what you are taught by others',but seek God's wisdom on what the scripture says...
Be very careful of the 'bible teachers' you listen or watch...
Know the Word so that you can make right decisions....
Look at the book you are reading, who the author is, and who the author is writing to....
If it's the Jew, this applies to the Jew...
If it's the Church, this applies to the Church...
Do not use 'replacement theology' which sooo many Bible teachers and preachers will do....
Picking the correct Bible is sooo important, and please, keep that in your mind...
Amen Jeani! Great post!

I use the Thompson Chain Reference KJV.
24 years ago I was with my husband in a travel trailer which was our home. I had my grandfathers Bible on the shelf although I never read it...but I took it...we didn't have a lot of room for much stuff.
When the Lord got my attention I couldn't get that Bible down fast enough. Now I know why I had it there.
I spent an entire month reading the Bible and it was the sweetest time with the Lord.
That Bible ended up falling apart but because I had gotten familar with it I ordered another just like it :)
Eric mentioned the Holman Bible and I googled it and looked at it a bit and ordered one yesterday morning.
My kids have the KJV and complain that they don't like the thees and thous and so I decided to see if they could read this one better. Thanks for the imput Eric!

I like the KJV for reproof and word study with the Concordance, and I like the NIV or Living Bibles for reading around the campfire with Jesus.

I sometimes read the KJV first and then read the same passage in the Holman's...I've had very little complaints at this point. But I'm by no means an expert. I got the Holman's for my oldest daughter as well.

The Holman's Bible is one that I don't have. Think I'll have to add it to my collection for studying. I have found that all the accepted Bibles agree. . they just say it differently. I know there's alot of attacks on anything other than KJV but even the KJV has it's translation issues now and then. Only the original Scriptures were inspired of God, but God has been faithful to keep His Word in tact enough to present a clear picture of His redemption plan and who Jesus is. The heart of the salvation message has not been altered in the accepted Bibles of today. With the printing of the TNIV, it has been altered but that Bible has not yet been accepted into the Christian circle as far as I know.

The HCSB is a very good bible to read, which helps make things a whole lot clearer.

I was going to ask you, Wayne, what the HCSB was but I googled it and read a very interesting article about it's compilation. Sounds good and I'm going to order myself one. Shortening HCSB to Holman's Bible threw me off.

Good news for modern man=junk
readers digest condensed bible=junk
the message=mans opinion aka junk
I use KJV when i was a teacher/preacher and like the NIV for reference. I am not opposed to people using modern translations as long as their not paraphrases or really mess with doctrinal issues example behold the virgin shall conceive vs a young maiden. Theres a world of difference in those 2 statements. I used to use the old schoefield at one time but never again. His words are his opinion and not inspired like some want to think.

I have to agree with this. I still have it but never use it.
