Thessalonians 3-Applies to Today!

Postby Jeani » 25 Feb 2009, 19:17

2 Thessalonians 3~
Finally, brethen, pray for us( Paul, Silas & Timothy), that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you (Thessalonians church).

and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.

But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you (thessalonian church) and guard you from the evil one (Satan).

And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you (thessalonian church) do and will do the things we (Paul, Silas & Timothy) command you.

Now the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.

But we command you, brethren (brother in Christ), in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. Scripture says to: withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly (continue sin without repentance).

nor did we (Paul, Silas, Timothy) eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. Scripture says: Paul, Silas, Timothy worked night and day as not to be a burden to anyone. They didn't eat anyone's bread free of charge.

not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should folow us.

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.(God set up a 'welfare' unlike man's welfare today especially what we see in socialism. Did you know in Leviticus 19 scripture says: When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger; I am the Lord your God. Through these scriptures we know that those who own the vineyard were bless so they were to leave the corners for the poor and stranger to 'work' to get the food. God's welfare is 'working',and not 'laying up to be lazy while others work.'

For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.(They are 'busybodies' because they have soo much free time by not working.)

Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.

But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.(I think that can be apply to us today seeing what our government is doing by taking from those who work to give to those who do not work. No matter what, we're still to do 'good.'

And if anyone does not obey your word in this eptistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.(hopefully withdrawing from him will cause true repentance)

Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. (They were to warn him--not denounce him)

Can you not see how 'man' today has twisted the scriptures to conform to the god of this world who is Satan?

Great Post, I believe all scripture has precepts, and truth we can apply any time.
Even in the old Testament.
Gods word is always relevant. :D
