The Fear of the Lord!

Postby Remnant » 29 Oct 2009, 15:31

What ever happen to the Fear of the Lord?

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

One can follow there own understanding and have all the intellect in the world but without God they can never truly be wise.

Proverbs 3:13-18
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies,
And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand,
In her left hand riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.

Proverbs 2:1-9
1 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.

I realized years ago that wisdom does not come with age nor does it come with earthly education and knowledge, but it begins with the fear of the Lord and the understanding of Him and the Knowledge of His ways.

To reject God is to reject wisdom!
To reject the Lord is to refuse understanding and knowledge!

I have tried to post this on other forums and most people avoid it like the plaque.

The fear of the Lord in the scripture comes form the Hebrew word Etymology which means:
a) fear, terror

b) awesome or terrifying thing (object causing fear)

c) fear (of God), respect, reverence, piety

d) revered

One can fully understand this better after reading the Old testaments account of God's Wrath and Judgement. At one time God's name was so revered that men and women would not even speak it in fear of not showing proper honor to the Lord!

Men are no longer taught the fear of the Lord. There has to be something to this or it would not have been so spoken of so often. Solomon could of had anything he wanted from God but he asked for wisdom and the whole book of proverbs is on the wisdom of God. It starts out by saying the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.

People avoid this subject because there is no grey areas. It is black and white with God. Either you revere and fear Him or you don't. And if you do then that is the beginning of gaining wisdom from God. There is no way anyone can get wisdom apart from God and His word. Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Every person who leans on there on understanding and who does not fear the Lord and acknowledges Him in all there ways is devout of wisdom.

In order to acknowledge God, one must acknowledge His son for no one comes to Father except through Him. To ignore that is to ignore God and to ignore the consequences of rejecting Him shows the lack of fear and reverence that is the beginning of wisdom.

I don't think the 'fear of the Lord' is taught in too many churches today...

You can't understand the 'love of the Lord' until you can understand the 'fear of the Lord.'

The Lord 'chastens' those He loves....

He 'chastens' his children,and that's how we know they are His children...

I was just praying yesterday for the Lord to give me more 'wisdom.'

Open up my eyes and understandings to prophecies...

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
