The Doctrine of Demons

The Doctrine of Demons
I. The Existence and Nature of Demons

A. Their Creation – God created demons as part of the angelic realm originally (Col.1:16).

B. Their Fall –

1. The evidence – It is clear that Satan has a following of like beings (“Prince of the demons” – Matt.12:24; the Devil and his angels – Matt.25:41). Demons are described throughout the Scriptures (Dan.10:10-20; Matt.10:1; Eph.6:12).

2. The time – At the fall of Satan, many angels followed him in that rebellion (demons are fallen angels). A third of the angelic host seem to have fallen with Satan (Rev.12:4 – the imagery of Satan as a “dragon” and angels/demons as “stars”).

C. Their Nature

1. Demons are by nature the same kind of spirit beings as angels. They are personal, intelligent beings.

2. Demons are morally wicked (“unclean spirits” – Matt.10:1; “evil” – Luke 7:21; “wickedness/darkness” – Eph.6:12).

a. They are deceitful (1 Tim.4:1-3; 2 Cor.11:13-15).

b. They are immoral (Gen.6:4; Jude 6,7).

3. Demons are invisible but also able to appear (Satan – Zech.3:1; Matt.4:9.10; Demons – Rev.9:7-10; 16:13-16).

4. Demons have great intelligence. They knew Christ’s identity and power (Mark 1:14,34; 5:6,7). They know their own future judgment (Matt.8:28,29). They can attempt to predict the future (Acts 16:16). They’re knowledge is not infinite. They learned it through thousands of years of experience and observation.

5. Demons have great strength (Mark 5:3; Acts 19:16; Rev.9:1-11).

II. The Activity of Demons

Demons are involved in carrying out Satan’s evil plans (2 Cor.11:15). What Satan is said to be doing (see above) is their work directly.

A. Demons promote idolatry (Lev.17:7; Deut.32:17; Ps.106:36-38). This activity is blatant in primitive cultures.

B. Demons are active in hindering the spiritual progress of believers every way they can (see Satan’s activities). They are deliberate and organized in these attempts (Eph.6:10-12).

C. Demons promote false teaching (1 Tim.4:1).

D. Demons can possess and afflict people (see supplement).

1. They cause physical ailments (dumbness – Matt.9:32,33; blindness – Matt.12:22; convulsions – Matt.17:15-18; Mark 9:20; self-injury – Mark 5:5; 9:22).

2. They cause mental disorders (withdrawal, nudity, filth, irrational behavior – Luke 8:27-29; suicidal mania – Mark 9:22).

3. They inflict problems upon believers as well, if allowed by God (Job’s troubles – Job 2:7-9; Paul’s "thorn in the flesh": - 2 Cor.12:7).

E. Demons promote selfishness and division in the church (James 3:13-16).

Exactly, this is why I beleive it is very important to not deal with angels.
Angels are and have always been for God, not human comand.

When they are manifest to us and offer assistance one can be sure it is not of God for God has sent Himself to indwell us and lead and protect us.

If God does (and He can) send an angel to minister to us, we only know it as a blessing from God. I don't believe God's angels manifest themselves to us and take glory away from the Lord Jesus Christ. This sounds more like the working of demons which are in the power of Satan.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.

I have had first hand experience with them. When I started really stepping into my calling, they tried stepping on me and they still do.

My daughter was so afraid to sleep in her room. She told me she heard voices. I thought she was just being a regular 8 year old wanting to sleep with Mom and Dad so I traded her beds. Sure enough, not long after I laid down, they cursed at me. They told me that I was in their (Gods name in vain here) bed! I prayed in Jesus' name and told them to leave. Havent heard back from them in that but I know they use people around me still.

As I was walking down the hallway at home I fell to the ground paralysed when a nefarious voice came as clear as day said to me that he would get me at the end and hideously laughed ,I could' move talk but only think I cried to the lord and never heard that voice again.
Every day is war, as the lord said' once you clean your house be careful for that spirit can’t find rest, so it joins
other evil spirits to return, either direct or indirect.
If it returns you will be worse then you were before.
Wear the full shield of God and don’t let your guard down.

God Bless

I'm a 'advocate' for the mentally ill today, and I can assure you that 'demons' do not possess someone who is mentally ill that has the Holy Spirit within them.

There is many who have mental disorders today that are strong Christians.

It has nothing to do with 'faith' except for a chemical imbalance in their brain.

I volunteer at a 'day center' with more than 60 clients that have some kind of mental illness.

They can be very normal when they take their prescribe meds.

If 'demons' lived in them, then when they take their meds, they would act normal. These meds are used to control the 'chemicals' in the brain.

Mental illness is a heredity disease just like heart problems, cancer, etc.

I do understand in the scriptures that there was 'demons', and Jesus cast them out.

Allot of these signs and wonders existed in the establishment of the first church.

I still believe in 'demon' activity, but not every person who has a mental disorder is demon possess.

Allot of mental diseases doesn't affect a person until they are in their 20's, 30's, and 40's.

It has to do with the 'chemicals' in their body.

They are very normal until these ages just like anyone else.

Mentally ill persons represents those who Jesus loved and died for just like me.

They represents the 'lepers' today of the Bible.

Lepers didn't want their disease, but the Lord allow them to have it; whereas, no person with any kind of mental illness wants the disease either.

I just wanted to share my love for the 'least' of these, and how God uses them to keep me humble.

This is all rather interesting, but scary too. I don't know what I'd do if a demon spoke to me. Does anyone know if satan or a demon can read your mind? Or, if not, can they hear you when you pray to God?

Knowing your thoughts is beyond their realm. However there are spirits refferred to as familiar spirits who may possibly know much about you, your habits or patterns which they can make calculated guesses of your reaction to sa set of circumstances.

Jeani, I disagree with your statement;
I'm a 'advocate' for the mentally ill today, and I can assure you that 'demons' do not possess someone who is mentally ill that has the Holy Spirit within them.

It is impossible for the Holy Spirit and a demon to co-exist in one person. A house divided against itself can not stand.

We have a sin nature, which is why we must accept Christ as our saviour before the Holy SPirit will indwell us.

Anyone can be influenced by evil spirits, even Christians who have unconfessed sin in their life, but Christians can not can be inhabited by them.

Misfit,

You need to 're read' my post because I never said a demon can possess someone that has the HS living in them.

I said: I'm a 'advocate' for the mentally ill today, and I can assure you that 'demons' do not possess someone who is mentally ill that has the Holy Spirit within them.

I don't need any site, but the inspire true Word of God.

I already know that the HS and a demon cannot exist in one person together.

So, when I became a believer and the H.S. came to dwell in me, if there was any demon possession from my Mormon background, they would have had to have left me? Do you think?

Yes, I think just that. The Holy Spirit and a demon can not occupy the same space.
Isn't God good!?!
