Advertising support of objectionable programming
Ed Thomas - OneNewsNow - 7/10/2008 4:00:00 AM

The president of the American Decency Association (ADA) warns viewers to beware of corporate sponsors of objectionable TV programming. He points to Dannon Yogurt as an example.

Swingtown is a CBS program set in the 1970s, and focuses around the decade's fad of swinging lifestyles that included wife-swapping and unrestricted sex. American Decency Association's Bill Johnson says he and many supporters have been writing to Dannon Yogurt corporate with their objections since the summer series started. Since then they have received several letters with assurances that their concerns were shared, and that the company would be taking action. "So it gives the writer every sense that Dannon is going to take a measured change, but this has been going on for several weeks now," the ADA spokesman points out.

Johnson says Dannon seems to be dragging its feet while sending out standard form-letter answers that string people along. He adds that one person who followed up their complaint with the company alleges that customer relations told her the response letter is called an advertiser loop -- and is not indicative of the company's true plans to continue advertising during Swingtown.

"They know exactly what they're doing, and they're intending to continue to be a sponsor of this wicked program," Johnson asserts. But the tactic is not unusual, he says. He reports that he has commonly run into the practice when the American Decency Association deals with sponsors of other objectionable shows.

Johnson believes the practice needs to be pointed out by those who have lodged complaints, and when those individuals write or call again they need to urge companies not to delay or ignore their requests.

Yes, definately! Boycotts work and makes our voice be heart. Write to the company even if they do send out a form letter in reponse. They still hear your voice and feel the impact if we stick together and pass the word.

Amen, I received a new mail order catalog today, I forget the name, but it was for ladies. Some make-up, clothes, gadgets and on about 3 or 4 pages it was nasty stuff.

I cut the pages out, put them in the trash, then went online and emailed the customer service telling them I did not want their magazine and I would never order from them because of the nasty stuff they had. It was way over the line for me.

We need to write and stand up for what comes in our homes in any way.
thanks for posting about Dannon.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.
