We Will Not Walk Therein

Tim Andrews

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

But they said, We will not walk therein. (Jeremiah 6:16)

When I read the verse above, I can’t help but think that this could’ve been written for us – by us. If any people in the world today should know the way we’re supposed to live our lives, it should be Americans. Almost every family in this country has a Bible in their home, or at least has access to one. We can turn on our TV or our radio and hear God’s Word being preached 24 hours a day. We can’t drive very far down our streets without passing a church. We, as Americans, have no excuse whatsoever to not know the paths we’re supposed to walk.

Did you notice that we’re supposed to ask for the old paths? We’re supposed to seek them. You’d be hard pressed today to find anyone asking for those old paths, the good way. It seems the majority of people in this once-Christian country has turned their backs on God and His righteousness and openly sought new paths, none of which are good.

Concerning the old paths, we chose not to walk therein. We chose the paths that led to abortion and homosexual marriage. And we chose a President who openly promotes them and pushes and shoves them both down our throats. We chose the paths that led to the removal of prayer and the Ten Commandments from our public lives – the removal of anything Christian. We chose the paths that led to blaming the United States for all or most of the world’s problems. And our chosen President makes no bones about apologizing to the world for any and everything that’s ever happened in the history of the world, whether or not we were involved. We chose the paths that led to our children being rebellious and unruly and irresponsible. We chose the paths that led to the breakdown of our families and the culture of this once-great nation.

The above verse was written about the rebelliousness of Israel, God’s children, who chose not to walk the good, old paths. They said, “We will not walk therein.” But do you know what? We Christians need to stand up and make that same statement to all the liberals and others like them who are hell-bent on taking this country down the tubes. We need to stand up and shout back to them – “We will not walk therein!” We won’t walk the paths that kill our unborn babies! We won’t walk the paths that lead to homosexual marriages – marriage is between one man and one woman, and it’s ordained of God Himself! We won’t walk the paths that lead to the removal of anything Christian from our lives! This nation was founded on Christianity, and that’s why it has been the great nation it’s been. We won’t walk the paths that lead to the blame of the U.S. for all the world’s troubles! We won’t walk the paths that lead to us handing our children over to the devil to raise!

Our children are gifts from God and are our future. It’s our responsibility to raise them and to train them properly and in the ways of the Lord. Leaving that responsibility to the liberals of this country is a sure-fire way of assuring their failure as adults. And creating more new, evil paths.

Fortunately, those old paths are two-way paths. While most choose to not walk therein and take the direction away from God, we also have the choice to take those paths and walk the direction toward God. We need to stand in these last days and choose to do right. While we’re walking the path in the direction He intended for us to walk, we’ll face a lot of traffic heading in the opposite direction. So we need to stand firm and be strong on our journey.

It won’t be long until it’s over, and when we reach our destination, it will have been worth struggle of reestablishing those old paths.
