Righteous Anger

Postby Jeani » 03 Nov 2009, 22:46

Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.

And He said to them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves. Matthew 21:12-13

********************************************

Jesus entered the temple area, His indignation was directed toward those who had changed the character of the temple from a place of prayer into a place of corrupt commercialism.

Many were making their living from the temple and the sacrifices purchased there.

They insisted that in the temple the people could not use money that had been circulating in society, but had to change their money into temple money first, for a fee, and then use the temple money to purchase animals for sacrifice, at inflated prices.

Since such extortion was completely contary to the temple's purposes the Lord overturned their tables and benches while quoting parts of the OT verses Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11.

Such a thing as 'righteous anger.'

The Bible says "the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God" but yes there is righteous indignation.

I've also read that Jesus did this during Unleavened bread....that He was getting the "leaven" out of His Fathers house.

Just wait till his anger is revealed through that great day of wrath that is spoken of in Revelation. I am glad that I will be with Him.
