Western civilization is visiting Iraq in the form of pornography, and one writer is portraying it as a positive occurrence.
A widely reported story by Associated Press writer Tarek El-Tablawy highlights the open sale of porn on Baghdad streets. But Bob Peters of Morality in Media has some criticism of the article.
"You read the article and you get the sense that the writer thinks that this, on the whole, is a good sign," he observes. "It's a sign of freedom, in the writer's mind."
Bob PetersPeters points out that while the story indicates there are people in Baghdad who are against pornography, "no one is quoted who is against it. The only people who are quoted or referred to are proponents of this, or at least defenders of the open sale of pornography."
