Please Remember Veterens Day, Today!

Postby Remnant » 11 Nov 2008, 13:00

Thanks to all those who haves served and sacrificed!

I think of my father and my son who served in the Navy and Marines!

Eternal Father, Strong to Save or The Navy Hymn

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

The original hymn was written by William Whiting of Winchester, England, in 1860. It was originally intended as a poem for a student of his, who was about to travel to the United States. In 1861, John B. Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune "Melita" for this hymn. "Melita" is an archaic term for Malta, an ancient seafaring nation and the site of a shipwreck involving the Apostle Paul mentioned in Acts of the Apostles (chapters 27-28).

I have always loved that song and remember well singing it as a child while attending an Episcopal church. My father who is 91, served in the Navy during WWII. My neice has already called him from California to let him know that she was thinking of him. Guaranteed, Veteran's Day will become only a memory as this country becomes more and more anti-military in the name of peace.

My father served in World War II,and the Korean War.

My oldest brother served as a 'chaplin assistant' in the Vietnam War,and my other brother served in the Vietnam War,too.

My father served at the very end of the war so he's 83 years old.

That means this generation is almost gone,and it's going to be a big loss to America.

These young adults know nothing of a true war except for a political war as of today.

My husband knows more about my dad's war experiences than I do because he loves to listen to my dad's stories.

It's only been these last few years of his life that he will even talk about those years.

He was one of the ones who landed on the isle of Normandy~

We're truly going to be a nation loss without them~
