A 'mystery' in Scripture is a previously hidden truth now divinely revealed.
1. The mysteries of the 'Kingdom of Heaven'. (Matt. 13: 3-50
The disciples immediately noticed a change in Jesus' method of teaching.
They came and asked Him directly why He was speaking in parables.
First, He was communicating through parables in order to continue to reveal truth to His disciples.
The Lord said He was making known to them the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.
Now Jesus unveiled certain facts not given in the OT about His reign on earth.
Many OT prophets had predicted that the Messiah would deliver the nation Israel and establish His kingdom on the earth.
Jesus came and offered the kingdom, but the nation rejected Him.
In view of that rejection what would happen to God's kingdom"?
The secrets of the kingdom intervene between Israel's rejection of the King, and her later acceptance of Him.
2. In Romans 11:25 this Mystery Israel has experienced a hardening in part.
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles has come in.
3. The mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed in Romans 16: 25-26
Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began.
But now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith--
The message of the gospel of Christ was hidden in the OT,but is revealed in the New.
The goal of this revelation of the mystery is that people of all nations might believe and obey Christ.
4. Mystery of Christ in Eph. 3:4
by which, when you read you may understand my knowledge in the 'mystery of Christ.'
which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His promise in Christ through the gospel.
The Ephesian Christians would be able to understand his insight into the mystery of Christ by reading what he had already written.
Paul's next words would further enhance their understanding of it.
His insight was not his own discovery; it was revealed by God.
Means that no revelation of this mystery was given in the OT but that this mystery was revealed for the first time in the NT
The mystery is: that the Gentiles believers with the Jewish believers are heirs together of God's riches.
Are sharers together in the Messianic Promise in Jesus.
5. Mystery of His will in Ephesians 1:9
In the Mill everything will be restored and brought together under Christ, the One Head.
6. Mystery of Christ and the Church in Eph. 5:32
The mystery refers to the two becoming one flesh.
But then Paul returned to mention the wonderful bond between Christ and the church, which illustrates the love of a husband for his wife.
7. Mystery which is Christ in you in Colossians 1:27
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
The amazing thing is that this is now revealed among the Gentiles, whereas previously God's special revelation was to the Jews in Rom. 2: 17; 3: 1-2.
8. Mystery of Lawlessness is already at work in 2 thess. 2:7
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.
9. Mystery of the faith in 1 Tim. 3:9
Holding the mystery of the faith with pure conscience.
Deacons must be men of spiritual depth.
Meant 'with a clear conscience' Paul meant that there must be nothing in the conduct of these men that was glaringly inconsistent with their professed beliefs. In other words they must not profess one thing but practice another.
10. Mystery of godliness is great in 1 Tim 3:16
Means God was manifested in the flesh; justified in the Spirit; seen by angels; preached among the Gentiles; believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
11. Mystery of the Seven Stars in Rev. 1:20
So here the seven stars were declared to be the angels or messengers of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches themselves.
12. Mystery of God will be accomplished in Rev. 10:7
While God's purposes are not necessarily revealed in current events where Satan is allowed power , the time will come when Satan no longer will be in power and the predictions of the O?T prophets will be fulfilled.
This mystery had been previously announced to God's prophets.
The reference, therefore, is not to hidden truth but to the fulfillment of many OT passages which refer to the glorious return of the Son of God and the establishment of His kingdom of righteousness and peace on earth.
13. Mystery of Babylon in Rev. 17:5
