Maybe they aren't so blind after all

Postby januarie » 28 May 2009, 09:36

I keep going over and over in my mind about the "blindness" that has overtaken America but this is what the Word says:

Romans 1 (Paul's letter to gentiles)
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

According to this passage, they aren't blind. They are without excuse. They made a choice to turn from God.

Well, he beat me again, but I too do not see any issue with where it is.
Appears to be a perfect fit.

Thanks guys.

Yesterday my best friend and I were talking while we were at the wellness center (gym). We just kept talking about how fast things have changed and how "blind" people were and how we have never seen anything like it. We had pondered how God has allowed people to be blinded. Then today, I realized that God has "given them over" to a depraved mind.

The realization of that fact has made me appreciate the people who, while not believers, still believe in Biblical principals and strive to live by them. We have many people like that in this part of the country and I am seeing a softening of hearts to the things of God.

On the other hand, those whom God has "given over" are becoming quite hard and even belligerent.

I honestly do not think that they are blind. They see the problems but are too
scard to act. They're afraid that everyone will make fun of or refute them.
Most are merely wearing blinders. They only see what they want to see.

Wayne, when I read what you said I immediately thought of the GOP (all the republicans in congress & republican politicians) and how only Cheney seems unafraid to speak. I know that's not who you were talking about but that's who came to mind. It fits, don't you think?

In a real sense the results of God's condemnation on rebellious humanity are nothing more than the natural consequences of suppressing truth, ignoring revelation, and perverting God's glory.

However, God did more than simply let nature take its course.

God acted to abandon people to expressions of a corrupt lifestyle that deserved God's wrath and the sentence of death.

One aspect of mankind's corruption (to which God actively let people go) was sexual profigacy.

The frequency of live-in lovers, wife swapping, and group sex parties today only confirms the result of God's abandonment.

The truth is that people are creatures of God and can find true fulfillment only in worshiping and obediently serving God the Creator.

Mankind make themselves their god in place of the true God.

Pagan humanity's rebellion also included the rejection of the knowledge of God.

In a sense they put God out of their minds.

The mental vacuum created by dismissing God is being filled with active sin: wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity.

Such extremity of human rebellion against God fully warrants God's condemnation is what I believe.

In Revelation, scripture talks about the destruction of the wicked.

With Christ's authoritative word of command destroys earth's armies by divine power.

Millions of men and their horses will be destroyed instantly.

The beast and his armies will gather to fight against Christ and His army.

The Antichrist and the false prophet will both be captured.

Both of them will be thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

The same inspired Word of God which so wonderfully describes the grace of God and the salvation which is available to all who believe is equally plain about the judgment of all who reject the grace of God.

What a time this will be,and I personally think it's not going to be much longer~
