Markings or Tatoos

Postby Jeani » 30 Jul 2008, 19:18

Everywhere I turn in life, I see tatoos or piercings.

I often remind my youngest son of this scripture:

Leviticus 19:28
You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tatoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

To me, the god of this age, is preparing those to take the mark of the beast in 7 year Tribulation by simplying introducing tatoos.

Rev 13:16
He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads.

and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

What are your thoughts?

Tatoos are very popular among our culture and also in Christendom, but should people continue to ignore scripture.

Jeani, You have made some great points!

Hear are some more thoughts on this.

If we are bought with a heavy price, which we are, should we not glorify Him in it.
1 Corinthians 2:19
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
I believe it grieves and offends the Holy Spirit by putting a tattoo on your body? “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Eph. 4:30).

God forbade the Israelites to cut their flesh because it was an identification with paganism and idolatry, and the New Testament contains the same principles and restrictions.

“Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11).

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world…” (Romans 12:1-2).

“But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?” (1 Corinthians 10:20-22).

Tattooing is still intimately associated with idolatry, paganism, moral debauchery, and rebellion.

Here is the bottom line: Why is it I see the wrong in it and many other strong Christian brothers and sisters see what is wrong with it but the new contemporary christian of today embraces it?

1. They ignore the word of God!
2. They are simply fulfilling the lust of the flesh!
3. They are carnal in nature! Or babes in Christ! They lack spiritual discernment!
4. They are totally deceived and Lost!

Thanks Frank for posting your understanding of the Bible scriptures on this thought.

I guess it's up to each individual 'convictions', but if 'we' don't say what the scriptures say about tattoos, how is one to know?

Allot of preachers don't want to touch this subject.

When I was a new Christian, I didn't know I wasn't suppose to be 'unequally yoke' with an unbeliever.

I always wish someone had shared the scripture with me because it's so important to have close relationships with true believers.

Thanks~

Let me say, My son was in the marines and he came back with tattoos. Did this change my stance on tattoos? No! Does it make me love him any less? No! He will tell you himself, That he wished he had never had them put on. he has already had one removed and another tattooed over with flesh ink.

I must admit, I have two little cross tattoos on my lower abdomen from when they did radiation treatments on me. They made a two permanent tattoos so that they could radiate the same area for 39 days. I am sure the Lord will forgive me for that.

I have a small tattoo, my son has a hugh tattoo, but both were made before we excepted the Lord as Saviour..
I got really upset that my grandson got one after he was saved

And like Frank, I don't love my grandson any less , nothing he can do to change my love for him.
Did it hurt me he did it , yes it did, it is a rebellious thing, and a worship kinda thing, because he got it because a friend got one...

A lot of Christians get them after they are saved unknowing their pagan roots, tattoo's are very occultic..
Many get them and can't even give you an answer why they did it, because they really don't know...
I know it was not the Spirit of God that moved them to get it ,God does not condon marking up His temple.
so that leaves satan, even if they don't know it.
He who compromises the sovereign Word of God, compromises the sovereign foundation, of a Christian nation

For me, it's the mark of regret -

I was saved, baptized and then fell into the snare of the devil...my half sister Carla and I went to a Tatt parlor together.
She and I both share the same tatt design, why I did it I do not know... just because she did is a poor reason - sibling pressure?
The day I got it I came home feel to the ground - fainted! Anxiety attack? I called around and saw a dermatologist the next day - trying to have it removed.
I was laughed at, told it was cute and that it would cost plenty and hurt a lot to remove it. My husband at the time was upset and would not look at it or me for days!
My mother shook her head and said she was shocked that I did that - I'll never forget that look on my beloved mother's face ):
At the time I did not know what the bible says about tatts... and sadly now, after the fact I do.
I have asked God to forgive me, for I'm sincerely sorry that I marked my body - I live with the mark of regret. But there will be no more tatts for me ever!
My daughter had a large tatt placed on her foot, I love her, but I am sorry that she did that. I think one day she too will see it as the mark of regret.
When my beloved mother went home to be with the Lord, my daughter wanted a tatt of a hummingbird (my mother loved them) and I talked to my daughter about not
having a tatt. So far she hasn't.

Just for the record, my regret mark is small, thumbnail size and unless I show you, you will never see it.

Forgiven for this, I believe yes, but it will always be there to remind me of how stupid I was, my mark of regret!

I hear ya Joye. We all have done stupid things that we regret. I live with the consequences of my past choices and try not to allow regret to sneak in to remind me. Praise God that we have a Savior who is so forgiving and so loving that He doesn't even see our past junk and blesses us in spite of ourselves.
