Hello Friends and fellow prayer partners!
I would like to update you on Joan and what has transpired over the last month. Joan's CA-125 score has consistently stayed below normal during her treatments and the doctor stopped the chemo treatments a few weeks ago, but she will continue to take Avastin. The purpose of this drug is to help prevent blood vessels from reaching any tumors; this could starve the tumor, causing it to stop growing and shrink. He also gave Joan and I a few weeks off and we took a little trip to Florida and had a wonderful and blessed time.
Since being back, Joan's port got infected. She was put on antibiotics for seven days and was tested yesterday to be certain the port was working properly. We also met with Dr. Lawhead for her physical exam. There were no signs of recurring tumors. The plan now is that Joan will have a Pet-Scan in two weeks. Dr Lawhead will read the scan and we will meet with him again to discuss our next step. We have been told that if the Pet-Scan is clear Joan will no longer be on chemo, but will continue to take Avastin every other week until, or if something changes. It will be administered through her port and has side effects like all drugs do. High blood pressure, headaches, general weakness, susceptible to infections, fatigue, loss of appetite, to name a few.
The good news is that she will be off chemo and our trips to the doctor will be once every other week instead of 2 to 3 times a week. We are so thankful that God has brought Joan through this and continues to do miraculous things in this remarkable journey. We can't praise Him enough. We know that because of the prayers of the saints that this is possible. Joan and I want to thank you all with a grateful and loving heart for all of your prayers and support.
