Heat Advisory

2010-08-24 - Heat Advisory

For the last couple months, about half the time, our area (along with many others) has been under a heat advisory, with actual temperatures inching past 100, a good number of times - and heat indexes sometimes reaching as high as 120. People have died, not only from overwork in the heat - but even by simply sitting on their porch. When we read or hear of these heat advisories on a weather forecast, we know to take precautions: Stay indoors as much as possible. Drink before you think you are thirsty. Be especially solicitious of the elderly and anyone else especially vulnerable. Never go outside, or anywhere in a vehicle, without water. Even swimming, normally a fun way to cool down, isn't wise, for excessive temperatures are unhealthy for swimming.

As Christians, we are familiar with another type of heat advisory. We know that for those who believe in Christ as Savior, eternity will be spent with Him (see John 3:16 and Ephesians 6:8-9). As a just God, Who wants all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4), He will provide opportunities for salvation, to all people. But for those who reject our Savior, another future is promised:

Quoting Christ: Matthew 25:41b (NASB) "Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels."

Have you made your decision?
