EL PASO, Texas -- The remains of a fetus were turned over to El Paso police when a group of people outside the Hilltop Women's Reproductive Clinic on Friday morning.
El Paso police told KFOX14 they were called to the scene around 11:45 a.m. after a prayer group reported finding the remains of a fetus near a dumpster.
Police investigators told KFOX-14 the fetus appears to be between 9 and 12 weeks old. Because of the young age, police spokesman Mike Baranyay told KFOX-14 the department would not investigate. Baranyay said the remains of the fetus have been disposed of properly.
Members of the prayer group said they're outraged by the department's decision, saying the fetus is a human being who was killed. KFOX-14 asked 40 Days of Life spokeswoman Gabriela Fredricko if she considered the possibility that someone may have done this to make a statement. “A statement of death maybe," said Fredricko. "It’s disgusting and it’s Good Friday. We’re reflecting on the death of Christ.”
Officials at the Hilltop Women's Reproductive Center told KFOX-14 they would not comment on the discovery.
The fetus' whereabouts are unknown. Police said they do not plan on investigating this incident.
