False Doctrine Profits No One

People really seem to believe we get some kind of sick thrill in exposing false doctrine. It’s almost as if they think we set in a corner rubbing our hands together, salivating, and laughing with glee at the first opportunity to pounce on a false teacher. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
People have adopted the attitude that if you speak out against their favorite teacher then it’s an attack on them personally. The vicarious nature of their grievance can be maddening. I’m not attacking them, I’m trying to pull them, kicking and screaming, out of the proverbial burning house. I mean, I would rather they wake up and see the danger around them and leave on their own, but that scenario isn’t always the one that plays out.
People don’t see how much I care. If I didn’t care about them (and detest false doctrine, which magnifies the false teacher and dishonors God), why would I even bother? Oh wait, how stupid of me…it’s because I get some kind of sadistic satisfaction from attacking God’s prophets and prophetesses. Wrong. We do this because false doctrine subverts the way of truth. Jesus said in John 17:17, “Sanctify them in truth, thy word is truth.” Since we know it is God’s truth that sanctifies, how can we be sanctified if the word we are being given is false? False doctrine has absolutely NO sanctifying power.
People like Juanita Bynum, Patricia King, Bob Jones, Benny Hinn, and the rest of the charismatic/mystic crowd speak words they want us to believe are from God. However, God gave us the infallible source of truth, which is contained in its whole in the Bible. Once that revelation was given, the canon of Scripture was sealed, and new revelation was cut off. If new revelation is given, it undermines the authority of Scripture. Hebrews chapter 1 tells us that God at one time spoke to us through the prophets, but now He has spoken to us through His Son, Christ Jesus. Hear what Scripture has to say:
HEBREWS 1
1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
When Peter was overcome on the mount during the transfiguration, he wanted to build tabernacles for Moses, Elijah, and Jesus. But, to keep Peter firmly on track, God intervened and put an end to that by saying, “”This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” (Matthew 17:5) He drew the focus away from any potential devotion to Moses and Elijah, and put it where it belonged…firmly on Jesus, the source of truth and life, for Jesus possessed the words of eternal life (John 6:68). Therefore, a minister of the gospel must actually teach the gospel of Jesus Christ because they are the words of life, and if he or she does not, then we must contend for the faith that was handed down once for all to the saints (Jude 1:3), because error does not save… only truth.
I think it’s worth it. I see the many souls who are deceived and abused by greedy teachers and my heart goes out to them. I’m not blind to their ignorance, though. I know that if they had a love of the absolute truth, they would obtain true knowledge of God in their heart. They follow preachers who promote the same sensuality their hearts chase after. I know. But, some will listen. Some have listened. And even if none ever do, the truth is worth fighting for. Don’t you think?
