Conservative leaders rally around Santorum after Texas meeting
Published January 14, 2012

Dozens of evangelicals and other conservative leaders decided Saturday to rally around Rick Santorum for the Republican presidential nomination, after meeting in Texas to try and pick a consensus candidate.
The decision comes amid speculation that, among social conservatives reluctant to support frontrunner Mitt Romney, indecision over which GOP candidate to back could end up splitting their vote in the upcoming South Carolina primary -- in turn, helping Romney.

The meeting in Texas was an attempt by conservative leaders to settle on a single, alternative candidate. It's unclear what impact the endorsement of these leaders will have. Polls show Romney leading in South Carolina, while voters who don't support the former Massachusetts governor are mostly torn among Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Santorum.
The call to back Santorum was only finalized after three rounds of ballots. On the third ballot, Santorum received 85 of 114 votes cast -- some conservative leaders who had been backing Gingrich changed their votes in the end to support Santorum. The group rallied around the idea that Santorum, and not Gingrich, is the candidate best able to beat President Obama in November.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, expressed surprise that the group agreed to back Santorum by such a wide margin, after failing to come together in support of a single candidate in 2008. In that race, the group didn't even meet until the primary race was basically over. This time, according to J.P. Duffy of the Family Research Council, the group wanted to come together "before it was too late."
The meeting took place at a pastor's ranch 90 miles outside of Austin. The conservative leaders met Friday night and again on Saturday.

Considering the candidates Santorum is the only choice...I'm not Catholic, but I support his Family Values and National Defence.. Newyt is Catholic also... Perry embraces islam and desire unified religion's...all of them... Mitt is Mormon... Ron Paul is touched ...somehow..well my guess is he embraces islam also ,seeing that he spends much time defending them..
that is what confuses me about Rick Santorum saying he supports Paul..why ,they have nothing in common? Sure hope if he is elected he does not pick Paul as VP... if he doesn't pick Bachmann Newt is the only one left ....
I don't think women should run a nation, but Bachmann is the only one with Foundational heart....
He who compromises the sovereign Word of God, compromises the sovereign foundation, of a Christian nation

Just found out that Romney is tied to Mexican families, but he's totally LIBERAL...

I've never seen Perry embrace Islam or desires an unified religion, but he's pro amnesty, which I'm totally against.

I went to our small city's National Day of Prayer, similar to what Perry had in Houston, and I can tell you that I will never go again...

However, I cannot not be held 'accountable' for the 'falseness' that attended that day..

My Conservative Radio Station attended Perry's prayer time, and they never commented about him believing in a 'unified religion'...

I, personally, heard his salvation testimony on the radio one day,and he's the only candidate that I've heard to say he has a personal relationship with Christ...

He has been governor of one of the biggest states, and one of the longest governor...

He's pro life,and against ho...pro guns...less taxes..pro oil drilling

I, also, like Santorum's strong family values especially for his opposition against abortions...

There is no 'perfect' candidate, and never will be...

I will vote for one of them, and only pray, Romney does not win the primaries...

If he does, I will gladly vote to get O out...

Just think, we could have the first Mexican President...

A little side note, something I read: How could George Romney (Mitt's dad) run for president (1968) when he was born in Mexico? Our congress has been ignoring the Constitution for a long time.

I am leaning toward Santorum. I don't like what he has to say about cutting soc sec benefits right away. But the Lord will provide for His people.

You're right, Janlyn...

The president's parents MUST be born in the U.S.; however, they are destroying our American Consitution..

Proud of you...

I believe Medicare is giving too much to those who know how to 'beat the system',and needs to be 'trim' back ,but not in the 'healthcare' for our old...

Medicaid is the problem; not soo much as Medicare...

They won't touch Medicaid, because it buys votes, and being in Texas...every illegal automatically receives Medicaid even with a good job...

They pay no taxes except for the state tax...and follow few Laws in Texas...

I 'love' to see the 'social programs' end,and all of the 'bail outs' for those who are not accountable..and touch Medicare LAST...

I really don't think it will matter much on what Snatorum believes on SS, because we are heading for an 'economic collapse' 'if' we don't make changes NOW....so there will be NO SS...which I totally believe O desires so that he can call Marshal Law,and be 'untouch.'

Love you, Janlyn...

Jeani, I meant Mitt's father ran for president (1968) and he was a "Mexican citizen".

Regarding medicare: Obamacare will cut 500 BILLION dollars from medicare.

Regarding soc sec benefits: I just have a burr in my saddle because we have paid so much into ss over the years and the government has "borrowed" it for other programs. We would have been better off to put the money under a mattress. Let's cut funding to planned parenthood first. hah.

Love you too Jeani :)
