Anger in Australia as school books ‘write Christ out of hist

Australian Christians are furious over changes to the national curriculum that will drop the terms BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini) from text books, replacing them with neutral, non-religious language.

Under the new politically correct curriculum BC and AD will be replaced with BCE (Before Common Era), BP (Before Present) and CE (Common Era) .

Peter Jensen, the Archbishop of Sydney, said that taking references to the birth of Jesus Christ out of school books was an “intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history” that he likened it to calling Christmas “the festive season”.

“It is absurd because the coming of Christ remains the centre point of dating and because the phrase ‘common era’ is meaningless and misleading,” he told the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

The changes have also angered conservatives in the opposition Liberal National party.

Christopher Pyne, the opposition’s education spokesman, said it was pointless to deny Australia’s cultural heritage.

Oh yes, I'm sure that we are. I'm sure that they are working on it as we speak.

I'm with you, Remnant. I believe we're next, or close to it. Even though we're powerless (anymore) to stop our government from making ridiculous decisions concerning Christianity, I do believe that God can and will do something about it. Prayer is a powerful thing. God does hear His children. Not only can we pray for what is going on in Australia, but we can pray for what all is happening here in America…and around the world! That's one freedom the government cannot take from us…the freedom to pray and to see God's power at work! PTL!

I so look forward to His coming.

Then will I get to see my dear Saviour face to face. And those dear faces of my brothers and sisters in Christ!

I wasn't aware that schools (other than Christian schools) ever taught about Christ. They never did when I was in school, although we did use scripture in public schools when we had a Christmas play. I memorized and recited the verses in Luke about Jesus' birth in the 4th grade (about 1956).

Here in the south every teacher that I ever had either read scripture in the morning or taught from the bible and prayed before every class. From 1950-1962.

The only time I remember that happening was with one teacher in high school who read scripture and prayed before each class. Also, during that time all Bibles carried by students were confiscated, and that teacher stopped that practice. I was in the cafeteria when a teacher pushed a cart through the room, and we were told to put any Bibles we had on the cart. They got very few and didn't get my New Testament that I carried, but then I doubt that very many students carried or ever read a Bible.

Jon-Marc, Did you live in the north or in California? I thought that it was pretty much the way our schools were until 1963 when they took prayer out of public schools.

Untill HS every School I wentto had Pastors that came ,also had prayer after Flag Pledge,,and before eating Lunch prayer was said over food,as a m atter of fact the Teacher went down each row and appointed a student to lead prayer for on e week..but that was WV..
I'm not certain now but even HS later (after my years) had a Pastor every Monday,i know this because my Pastor split names with me ,i would call half and he half to remind students of Gym Pastor day. . .

But look at the day and age we were in grade school. Different era altogether than it is nowadays. My sons, who are in their 40's now, did get small new testaments handed to them in grade school from the Gideon Bible Society, but I'm sure their school doesn't do that anymore. What modern-day kids can boast having the same experiences concerning Christianity in schools that we had? Very few, I doubt. Not with all the clamp-downs and the closed minds who run the school systems throughout the country. We can only pray that the Holy Spirit will tenderize their hearts and minds. Surely some of them attend church! It's to our ancestors' shame that so many believed Darwin… And now we have the ACLU, which is a whole 'nother group in opposition to God.

I'm sure glad God is our judge. He will be fair. And all who are to be held accountable will be.
