We all have differing ideas on most all subjects available for discussion, and this subject is no different. We will quickly find that God’s view of dating and mating completely contradicts that of the world.
The biggest difference between the two is that the world does not appear to have, or even care to have, set standards, that are followed. It is ok for a person to date as many people they can, simply to find the person which best fits their personality before making any sign of a commitment. Mating during the dating process is also customary.
Scripture tells us, “For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning” (2 Peter 2:20 New King James Version). Does this not lead us to believe that the more one dates the greater the consequences? Imagine the risk one takes for being introduced to the STIs. In 2009 under the surveillance of the CDC, there were 44,828 cases representing 14.7% at rates per 100,000 of the population in the United States alone (Centers for Disease Control, 2010).
In order for a commitment to grow and strive we must be like-minded with our potential mate. God tells us; “do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?” (2 Corinthians 6:14-15).
Following the world instead of Christ? Are we sure we are ready for what is to come? Are we willing to answer for our mistakes being faced with such risk?
